Life saving rescue results in Paralympic gold
I was only seven when I experienced the difference the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service can make on a life.
I had a severe accident on my family's farm. My arm got caught inside a machine and I became trapped. The helicopter was called to take me to the nearest hospital, and I was in the emergency ward within 10 minutes. By car it would have taken more than 90 minutes.
Despite losing my hand in the accident, my family was just relieved that I survived. They were my motivation to continue pursuing my passion - athletics.
I pushed myself all the way to three Paralympics. For each medal I've won, I've been grateful to the Service for saving my life and allowing me to achieve such wonderful things. It's funny how things work out; I feel like I've come full circle as I now work for Westpac and fundraise alongside them for the helicopters.
I would like to sincerely thank the crew members of the Service - for saving my life and the tens of thousands of others saved over the past 40 years.
